Anubias 'Marble' is a compact, slow-growing aquatic plant prized for its elegant marbled variegation. Its thick, glossy leaves display unique patterns of deep green, lime green, cream, and white, making every specimen naturally one of a kind. Thanks to its compact habit and refined appearance, it is especially appreciated in nano aquariums, planted layouts, and detail-focused aquascapes where texture and contrast play a central role.

Its leathery leaves remain attractive for a long time, and with stable conditions the white and cream marbling can become more defined as the plant matures. Because of its naturally slow growth, patience is rewarded with increasingly characterful foliage.

Ideal cultivation conditions

For the best development of Anubias 'Marble', the most balanced values are:

Temperature: 25°C (77°F)

pH: 6.8

GH: 5 dGH

KH: 3 dKH

Lighting: medium intensity, 7 hours per day

CO₂: 15–20 mg/L

Nitrate (NO₃): 10 mg/L

Phosphate (PO₄): 0.5 mg/L

Potassium (K): 10 mg/L

The rhizome should never be buried. For best results, attach the plant to driftwood, rocks, or decorative hardscape using thread or aquarium-safe glue. Over time, the roots naturally anchor themselves to the surface.

How to keep the white variegation bright

The pale sectors of the leaves contain less chlorophyll and are naturally more delicate. To maintain crisp white marbling:

Keep stable medium light, not overly strong. Excessive light often encourages algae before it improves color.

Maintain consistent nutrients, especially potassium and trace elements, since deficiencies usually appear first in the pale areas.

Avoid sudden changes in light intensity, temperature, or water chemistry, as stress often causes new leaves to emerge greener.

If the plant starts producing mostly green leaves, trim back to the last strongly variegated leaf to encourage more marbled future growth.

Useful maintenance tricks

Because Anubias 'Marble' grows slowly, algae can settle on the leaves more easily than on faster plants.

Place it in gentle water movement to prevent debris from collecting.

Position it slightly shaded rather than directly under the brightest light source.

During water changes, gently wipe older leaves with your fingers to remove biofilm before algae establish themselves.

Mature leaves often show stronger and more attractive marbling than very young leaves.

Curiosity

One of the most fascinating features of Anubias 'Marble' is that every new leaf is unpredictable. Some emerge mostly green, others heavily marbled, and occasionally a leaf may appear almost half white. This constant variation is exactly what makes mature specimens so desirable among aquascapers and collectors.
