Blyxa japonica var. recurvifolia is a beautiful and relatively uncommon aquatic plant characterized by long, narrow leaves with a distinctly recurved growth habit. Compared with the typical form of Blyxa japonica, this variety develops leaves that bend backward more noticeably, giving the plant a soft, flowing and elegant appearance.
Under ideal conditions, the foliage can develop attractive bronze, pink, reddish and golden tones. Stable CO₂, strong but controlled lighting and consistent fertilization are especially important for maintaining compact growth and intense coloration.

Fertilization: complete and stable macro and micronutrient fertilization is recommended. Daily dosing or several smaller doses during the week usually gives the best results. A complete fertilizer such as MasterLine or 2Hr Aquarist works very well when dosed consistently.
Substrate: a nutrient rich substrate is highly recommended, especially for stronger root development and more stable growth.
For the best appearance, keep CO₂ very stable at around 30 ppm, maintain PAR close to 90 µmol at plant level and avoid sudden changes in nutrients, pH or conductivity. Under these conditions, Blyxa japonica var. recurvifolia can develop a compact shape with elegant recurved leaves and strong bronze to reddish coloration.
