The purple coloration is due to anthocyanin accumulation, which is stimulated by high-intensity light (minimum 50–60 PAR), stable CO₂ injection (20–30 ppm), and complete fertilization rich in iron and trace elements. In lower light, the purple tones may fade, leaving a more standard green.

It grows best in soft, slightly acidic water (pH 5.5–6, GH 6–7, KH 2), and should be trimmed regularly to prevent legginess and maintain a compact form. Sold as mature, submerged-grown stems – not in vitro – ready to thrive in your tank.
